hey, that’s king charles & queen camilla…

Initially, I was going to write my posts in some sort of sequential order of what I experienced on my trips, but then that went out the window because ADHD… Ha ha.

On my last full day in London I wanted to visit this cool Harry Potter store that was next to Buckingham Palace - and even though I had already visited the palace a couple days before I decided that it wouldn’t be the WORST thing in the world if I decided to take the route past the palace again. And, as I approach the palace there are barricades set up and no one is allowed to cross the street or pass the palace. Obviously, this was super annoying to me and my mission to visit the Harry Potter store.

I start hearing people talking about that someone important was coming into the palace and that was why everything was shut down. And me being me, I take out my phone and start to video. Not more than a minute later the motorcade enters the Buckingham Palace drive and then the Royal Rolls Royce follows… And WHO is in the car? It was none other than King Charles and Queen Camilla (actually it was a month and a half before the coronation, but I digress.) Talk about exciting!

I was just a few feet away from the car. I can’t believe how close they allow the public to get to the King & Queen. I was talking to a woman later that day as I was eating dinner and she said that she’s lived in England her whole life and has still never seen a king or queen. She was quite impressed. And to be honest, so was I.

You see people on TV for your entire life and you forget they’re actual humans that get driven around, in public. The British monarchy especially is no stranger to the news, movies, TV shows, and all sorts of other publications. They DO seem like these larger-than-life characters, and maybe their characters are larger-than-life and the real people are more “normal” than we think?

For my first solo-trip, I finished it out strong. (And then went to see Hamilton on the West End - but that’s for another story.)
